What is the difference between Combat Power and Gear Score?

AION 2 shows two numbers, and they do different jobs:

Gear Score (item level) Combat Power
Measures Your equipped items Your total strength
Used for Unlocking dungeons and zones Comparing real power
Raised by Gear, enhancement, Daevanion crystals, Arcana All of the above, plus stigmas, pets, soul binding, collections

Gear Score is the gate; Combat Power is the strength. You need Gear Score to enter content (see the item-level steps in the endgame guide), but Combat Power decides how well you do once inside. Players often stall because they chase Gear Score and skip the cheap permanent systems that only raise Combat Power.

How do you raise Gear Score fast?

  1. Belt and amulet rarity. Morphing them to the next color (for example blue to yellow) gives one of the biggest single jumps. You never replace these two, so it’s never wasted.
  2. Daevanion crystals. Every crystal you spend on the board adds Gear Score directly. Get them from regional quests, sealed dungeons and the Shugo shop. See the Daevanion guide.
  3. Clash Runes. Equipping two adds roughly 60 Gear Score each, before any enhancement. Regional quests give them.
  4. Enhance evenly. Each enhancement level adds 1 Gear Score, and low levels are cheap. Raising many items to +1 costs less than pushing one item to +5. The enchanting guide explains safe levels.
  5. Free content at 45. Clear green quests, sealed dungeons and strongholds, then finish the main story in the Abyss for a bracelet worth enhancing to +10 or higher.
  6. Arcana. Replacing each green card with a blue one adds about 20, so a full set adds about 100. See the Arcana guide.

Common milestones: 1,000 → 1,400 → 1,600 → 1,900 → 2,100 Gear Score.

How do you raise Combat Power?

  • Stigmas: one of the best returns, especially when your gear is already decent. Plan shards with the stigma calculator.
  • Gear quality: higher grade, enhancement, set bonuses, manastones and Theostones.
  • Substance Morph: take gear to about +10, then morph it to the next tier for a permanent upgrade.
  • Soul binding: reroll weak lines into Combat Speed or Critical Damage. Keep spare yellow items; they make soulbinding rerolls 100% successful.
  • Genus Insight (pets): analyze until level 9–10, then lock the stat lines you want. This alone can add a large chunk.
  • Collections and Pantheon: wings, skins, titles and pets add stats, and so do stronger Colossi, Statues and Artworks placed in the Pantheon.
  • Dungeon ladder: Expedition, then Transcendence, then Sanctuary; put the materials back into your gear.

Why is my Combat Power stuck?

Usually because a permanent system is untouched: stigmas still at low levels, Genus Insight never analyzed, or the Pantheon empty. Check those before buying gear. Your class’s core stigma and skill priorities are on its build page.

Pets are one of the cheapest Combat Power gains; see the pets and Genus Insight guide.

FAQ

Upgrade your belt and amulet rarity, spend Daevanion crystals, equip two Clash Runes, enhance all gear evenly, and replace green Arcana with blue.
Do buffs raise Combat Power?
No. Only permanent upgrades count. Temporary buffs from consumables don't change your Combat Power.
