How do pets work in AION 2?

Pets are a collection system as much as a companion. You unlock a pet by collecting its souls from monsters, and every pet you own gives Owned Effects that stay active even when another pet is out. On top of that, each pet genus has a Genus Insight board with stat lines you can reroll. Together they add a large chunk of permanent Combat Power; see the combat power guide.

How many souls does a pet need?

Step Souls Running total
Unlock (Insight 1) 5 5
Insight level 2 25 30
Insight level 3 75 105

Once a pet is maxed, extra souls for it turn into its genus’s Soul Crystals, which you spend on Genus Insight rerolls.

What does each pet genus give?

Genus Owned Effects at Insight 3 Best for
Cogni HP +30, Critical Hit +2, Might +1 Damage (Might raises Attack)
Natura Stamina, Critical Hit Resist +2, Precision +1 Accuracy and crits
Fera Mount speed +3, Accuracy Bonus +2, Dexterity +1 Accuracy, travel
Varian Mount sprint cost −0.3%, Evasion Bonus +2, Constitution +1 Defense
Special Value comes from its Insight board —

Genus matters more than species. Pets in the same genus give the same Owned Effects at the same Insight level, so a rare pet isn’t automatically better. Farm species that spawn from low-level monsters in large numbers.

How does Genus Insight work?

Each genus has a board with up to nine stat lines: one opens at board level 1 and another at each level up to 9, and the board maxes at level 10. Board experience comes from unlocking pets (+500), raising pets to Insight 2 and 3 (+250 each) and running analyses (+100 per slot).

  • Reroll cost: 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kinah with no lines locked.
  • First goal: Insight 4 (5,000 experience, about ten pets of one genus) opens the slot that can roll damage lines.
  • Keep: raw Attack Bonus, Boss Attack, Critical Hit and Defense Bonus. Genus-specific versions (for example Cogni Accuracy) only work against that genus.

Where do pets fit in your progression?

Pets are cheap permanent power, so do them before pouring materials into gear. Extra Soul Crystals are sold in the Shugo Festival shop. The endgame guide shows the rest of the level 45 loop.

FAQ

What is the best pet in AION 2?
Genus matters more than species: pets of the same genus give the same Owned Effects. Cogni is the best offensive genus (HP, Critical Hit and Might). Farm whichever Cogni pets spawn from low-level monsters.
How many souls does a pet need?
5 to unlock, 25 more for Insight level 2 and 75 more for level 3: 105 souls in total.
When should I lock Genus Insight lines?
Not until that board reaches Genus Insight level 10. Locking early makes every reroll more expensive.
